Day 63 – Melbourne

 
We went to the Melbourne Zoo today (don’t worry, it’s not in the CBD – just before it).

They had heaps of animals including: lions, tigers, leopards, bears, monkeys, elephants, giraffes, zebras, seals, fairy penguins and meerkats.











There were hundreds of people at the zoo. It was very popular (and school holidays) so it was sometimes difficult to get a good look at the animals (and get photos):

Day 62 – Melbourne

 
We went to the Melbourne Aquarium today. They had some good displays of turtles, fish, sharks and sting rays:







The main attraction we went there to see was the penguins, and we weren’t disappointed!!









What a shit of a place Melbourne CBD is to drive around!!

You have to turn right from the left lane across tram crossings with no green arrows having to navogate the traffic in the right lane going forwards plus the traffic coming from the other direction – every time I tried I got stuck in the intersection when the light turned red (with red light cameras).

After 10,000km and 60 days, I haven’t broken a single road regulation (to the point of being abused by others drivers not interested in obeying the speed limits) and within 1 hour of driving around the Melbourne CBD I’ve probably lost my license.

Not happy....

Day 61 – Melbourne

 
Isn’t he the cutest little boy?!?!



Ryan was waiting patiently on the back porch this morning waiting for a ride on Brooke’s horse.

He didn’t have to wait long though as Aunty Jan was keen to get him up there:





But all he really wanted to do was give Birdie a cuddle:



We left Beechworth this morning heading for Melbourne. The drive only took a couple of hours and Ryan slept for two of them, so when we arrived we took him for a play at the playground:

Day 60 – Beechworth

 
Happy Easter!!

Ryan loves Easter about as much as we do, although he thought Santa Clause brought him the teddy....







This morning we went down to check out Lake Sambell. It is just behind the main streets of town and is really quite nice:



Ryan managed to find a playground while we were watching the ducks swimming around in the lake:





This afternoon it was time for Ryan to say goodbye to his third cousins Gabbie and Brooke:

Day 59 - Beechworth

 
There’s nothing better than waking up on a farm, with the sun shining and the birds cheeping (even if it is a little cold):





We visited the Beechworth Honey Shop this morning, owned by Kylie’s cousin. They have tonnes of honey products including honey, candles, ice cream, moisturiser cream and soft drinks – all made from honey.





They also have a great little tour with videos explaining the four generations of honey makers in the Robinson family (including Kylie’s cousins Jodie and Jamie), the honey making process and some great honey recipes.

Our visit to Beechworth coincides with the annual Beechworth Golden Horseshoes Festival. There are literally thousands of people in town. They had a huge parade going down the main street and I got a few snaps of the Beechworth Honey truck, tractor and bees (a copule of the bees are Jodie's kids):







Ryan enjoyed a couple of rides including the jumping castle and spinning teacups:

Day 58 - Beechworth

 
After a short stop in Canberra we continued our journey south back into New South Wales for a short while before we crossed over into Victoria.

This morning we stopped in the famous town of Gundagai to see the ‘Dog on the Tuckerbox’:







In the afternoon we stumbled across the little town of Holbrook which boasts a bloody big submarine sitting in the main street:





We're staying with Kylie's Aunty Jan and Uncle Ally on their fsrm while we're here. After dinner Uncle Ally took his grandson Ben and I rabbit shooting.

When Uncle Ally got his gun out of the cupboard it reminded me of the time when Kylie and I first started dating and Kylie's Dad mentioned that he had a gun. Not sure why?
