Day 17 – Mission Beach

 
Cassowaries.

They love them up in these parts…….

It was a bit hard leaving Cairns this morning after 5 days there. It is such a nice place with plenty to see and do.

Only a short drive down to Mission Beach today, about 150km, although it was raining most of the way so the drive took a little longer than planned (yes Mums, safety first).

Back to the Cassowaries.

After we turned off the Bruce Highway on the way into Mission Beach, they had heaps of signs about Cassowaries. They even had some signs stating that we were driving though a Cassowary conservation area.

I took a photo of one of the funniest signs we came across (Kylie was pissing herself laughing for about 10 minutes):



The speed limit on this particular stretch of road was 80km/hr so I guess one would have survived if I hit it within the speed limit?!?!

The park we are staying at is right on the beach front, the waves are only about 10m across the road. Unfortunately it is still raining so we don’t have much of an opportunity to enjoy the ‘sun and surf’.

We did however have a chance to go for a swim at the pool though, which boasts a water slide and a crocodile (statue):



And of course we have to have photos with the Cassowary (a statue of course, wouldn’t want to hurt one of the poor darlings with the flash from the camera):
