It rained all last night and all day today.
It was a relatively long drive from Airlie Beach to Rockhampton which was good, ironically, as it meant we had to leave early. Had we left any later, we may not have been able to leave at all!!
There was so much rain that the road was flooded in a couple of places about 20km out of Airlie Beach on the Bruce Highway.
The first bit of flooding wasn’t too bad, only about 15cm across both lanes which wasn’t too difficult to get through (slowly of course):
However the second bit of flooding was much worse, about 50cm over the road – thankfully it was over the other lane and only half of our lane so we were able to get across on the shoulder of the road with greater ease than eaelier.
I took this photo from the car as I was pulled over checking the depth before I went through. If you look closely you can see part of the white line (the middle of the road) in my rear view mirror and also just below my rear view mirror:
We got to Rockhampton in the mid afternoon. We’re here for a couple of days and there are a few activities we’re looking forward to doing including a tour through the Capricorn Caves and fossicking for ‘Thunder Eggs’.
After sitting in the car for the best part of the day we took Ryan to the playground to burn off some energy. He wanted to climb through the tunnels (as always):
We went to Sizzler for dinner (I love Sizzler) and we were lucky enough to sit next to the fish tank where Ryan spent most of his time (when not scoffing into the ice cream) waving to the fish.
